Smooth and rhythmic breathing

A breath consists of an exhalation and an inhalation. Time periods of inhalation should be the same as that of an exhalation.

Breathing should be smooth and rhythmic in nature. There should be no holding of breath in or out. Inhalation should start as soon as an exhalation ends, and exhalation should begin as soon as the inhalation ends. There shuld be no sudden movements in the breath.

To minimize distractions to one-pointed focus in meditation, it is important to keep the breath characteristics the same throughout the meditative session.
